According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the first 2 months of 2016, exports of agricultural, forestry and fisheries group was estimated at $ 2.95 billion, up to 9.7% comparing to the same time last year and accounted for 12.5% of the total exports. In particular, some items have steady increase in exporting cashew, rice, coffee ... For seafood products, export value of 2 first months of the year were nearly $ 1.1 billion, increased 8, 2% over the same period. United States, Japan and China remained the largest importer of Vietnam seafood.
In forecast, in 2016, exports of agricultural, forestry and fisheries group will have many opportunities to prosper due to the increase of market demand, the improvement of products structure, the expansion of applying high technology, promote links and invest in agriculture. Especially with the impact of free trade agreements have just signed and officially took effect. This year, one of the export key of Vietnamese market is the United States which is forecasted to continue growing strongly.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa, Deputy Director of HCM City Department of Industry and Trade said that to achieve the export target as expected, the farmers themselves and the entrepreneurs need effort and manufacturing strategy to create high quality products, meet the requirements of the most demanding markets.
"ASEAN Economic Community as well as the TPP has opened up a huge export opportunity for Vietnam entrepreneur. In terms of opportunities, Vietnam will have a large comsumption market for agricultural products. But to seize that opportunity, Vietnam need to upgrade the quality and scale of production to meet the required standard of market. Entrepreneurs need to change methods, the scale of production, readjust, achieve standards of safe food for having a stand in the domestic market as well as increase export capacity "Mr. Hoa said.
Although there are the difficulties caused by repercussion of the old year, in the forecast for this year, export turnover of many goods will rise such as rice, cashew nuts, pepper, wood, cassava and vegetables and fruits. Export strategy of agriculture, forestry and fisheries will focus on the key markets like the United States, Europe, ASEAN, Russia and Eastern Europe, China and Africa.
This is a big opportunity, but Vietnam will be under pressure of export competition in this market from China, Thailand, and Indonesia. Besides, there are technical barriers, quality, safety products and the origin for agricultural products. When integrating, a large amount of goods from abroad will flow into Vietnam market. This is a big challenge for Vietnam's products when directly competing on the export market in ASEAN and at the domestic market.
Le Ba Ngoc, Vice President and General Secretary of the export Association of Vietnam handicrafts said that in this fierce competition, each ASEAN country has their own comparative advantage. To create a position in the market, businesses have to go up by internal forces, affirmed the quality and their brand.
"To enhance the quality of export products, primarily the producer must have a sense of quality production. Producers, businesses must focus on high-quality producing market. If businesses and producers do not have a sense of high quality production, it is certain that they cannot do it. Since that, the impact on demand for new product design" Mr. Ngoc said.
According to economic experts, to take advantage of opportunities from the integration process, work overseas markets, trade promotion for agricultural - forestry - fishery should be placed on top; Strengthening coordination between MARD and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, including the system of trade in foreign countries; Construction of throughout information networks, relation motivation, connections of import - export agriculture - forestry - fisheries, the connection between the markets and Vietnam; improve product quality to meet standards, quality of importing countries.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Tran Tuan Anh said that to accomplish the goal of agricultural exports in 2016 reach between 39-40 billion, the immediate and long term orientation still innovative growth model and improve efficiency of manufacturing and trade, especially in the sustainable and long-term direction. The changing structure of export products has brought greater value for these items which are essential requirements. This was confirmed in the 2020 Export Strategy, 2025 Vision.
"The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in guiding the implementing of policies of the State in time and effectively. Simultaneously supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development by the specific content of the building for material areas which have strong links with businesses, facilitate for companies to invest in agriculture and rural. Continue to take effective technology in labor productivity as well as product quality and tie to brand construction in order to help our businesses have conditions and contribution into the development of the agricultural sector" Deputy Minister, Tran Tuan Anh said.
The year 2016 is predicted to be a good year of agricultural export sector. In addition, the efforts of producers and enterprises really need the support of the State in in investing and innovating technology, supporting the application of science - technology, especially seeds and biotechnological technology, preservation technology, processing, information technology, linking production to processing and marketing. Moreover, the formation of chain in consuming products on the domestic market and export to overseas.
